Monastery was not only place of worship, but also a fortress during wars. A lot of famous architects and artists have contributed to to its construction and decoration in XVII-XiX. It had tragic history during XX (concentration camp of Soviets in the 30th, Nazi occupation, in USSR was converted to psychiatric hospital). Now it is monastery again, and monks are conducting renovation works. The aim of the project is to contribute to renovation of the monastery. Type of Work: Basic renovation work, cleaning up caves and historic well (removing soil and 'historic layers) work on the territory of the monastery. Study Theme: about history of the monastery and the region. Ethnofestival "Pidkamin" will take place in the village from 18-20th of July. The volunteer will have an opportunity to join the festival and learn a lot about Ukrainian traditions and culture, as well enjoy Ukrainian music. Accommodation: on the territory of the monastery in one of the buildings. Bring a sleeping bag. Сook from the monastery will be cooking for the volunteers. During weekends volunteers will cook for themselves. Language: English, local language — Ukrainian Approximate Location: Village of Pidkamin, Lviv region Notes: The project will take place in the west of Ukraine, more than 1000 km away from the eastern regions of the country and Crimea. During last months the situation was peaceful and safe here, no mass protest actions or violence took place. We organized several international activities in the West of Ukraine in April and May 2014 with over 40 participants from all over Europe.
