Description: Nevicke (Nevytsky) castle is located 12 km from Uzhgorod, in the village of Kamyanytsya, on picturesque hills above the Uzh river. Its history starts in XII and is connected to many legends, historic and military events; it was important center of trade and crafts. The castle was partly destroyed in XVII and not used anymore, thus traditional medieval architecture is fully preserved. A group of enthusiasts started research and reconstruction work there, with a long-term aim to make a live medieval museum. The project aims to contribute to restoration and research works at the castle.

Type of Work: reconstruction of external moat, research of central yard of the castle, clean up of the territory of the castle (weeds, trash).

Study Theme: history of the region, medieval architecture on example of castles, problems of preservation of historic and cultural heritage in Ukraine on example of Nevicke castle.

Accommodation: in the tents, bring a sleeping bag. Volunteers will cook for themselves.

Approximate Location: Kamyanytsya village, Zakarpattya region

Notes: he project will take place in the west of Ukraine, more than 1000 km away from the eastern regions of the country and Crimea. During last months the situation was peaceful and safe here, no mass protest actions or violence took place. We organized several international activities in the West of Ukraine in April and May 2014 with over 40 participants from all over Europe. Nobody experienced problems during the travel to the project venues or during the activities themselves.
